Back to skool -_-

So this is day 1 of what is hopefully my last semester here at SJSU. The first day of classes is always a mildly awkward venture... There are always a billion people on campus, which just complicates everything. Traffic sucks, parking sucks, and classes are overflowing with dipshits trying to add.

Class 1: ARTH 193A Worlds of Art and Culture

Got here right at 9 when there were about 2 seats left, so I'm sitting here in the back corner of the class. I'm sitting next to this guy who I know from a couple other classes I had with him. Class is blah... standard Art History course, not unlike the numerous others I have taken. Teacher seems decent, which is a relief because I'm always expecting some bitch-tyrant.

Class 2: ARTH 187B Sixteenth Century Italian Art

This class is in the same room as the previous one, so I remain in the same seat. Sitting next to some skinny blond. Class is so full that there are 7-8 shameful bastards standing in the back. Some woman actually had the nerve to come sit down on the floor DIRECTLY in front of me, literally inches away from my feet. I can't even extend my legs, I have to keep them tucked under my desk. My knee is 1 foot away from her face. I fuckin HATE when strangers crowd me, ESPECIALLY when it is totally unnecessary. This bitch is all up in my grill. I might accidentally kick her... and by "accidentally" I mean "intentionally." The teacher is almost identical to the one that taught the previous class, but seems to have a less casual approach to the course.

Class 3: DSGD 105 Intermediate Graphic Design

Yay... This class is serious business. I had to go through a portfolio review to get into this damn class. My good friend Kelli is in this class which is cool, and that means I don't have to be that mysterious hooded guy in the corner of the room. Teacher seems pretty legit. This will be my most challenging class this semester, hands down. This is me after reading the greensheet...

Class 4: DSGD 99 Intro to Typography

Yeah I know, I should have taken this class a long time ago. First impression walking in: bunch of wide-eyed freshmen noobs in here... The teacher happens to be my major adviser. The course seems like a dumbed-down version of 104.

Universal Mind Control

You can always expect something epic when you combine one of the best producers (Pharrell) and one of the best MCs (Common). I heard this song on the radio a few weeks back, and I was
instantly hooked on the beat... it's insane. Pharrell samples a really old school Afrika Bambaataa track. It's crazy because it sounds way ahead of it's time, yet it is really an homage to classic hip hop. The track is on Common's upcoming album. Check out the video... Pharrell has a robot head! EPIC!!!

808s and Heartbreak

It's been a while since my last post... Blogging sort of fell into the bottom of my list of a million things to do. Been working on a lot of projects and papers and all that other stuff.

Today (well technically yesterday) Kanye West released his fourth studio album 808s & Heartbreak. Most unenlightened individuals hear "Kanye West..." and automatically think "oh that arrogant sell-out mainstream rapper blah blah," and fail to recognize his musical genius. I've been listening to Kanye since he produced "Heart of the City" for Jay-Z back in '01, and I've always thought he was one of the primary innovators in hip-hop. For the past few weeks, I have been scouring torrent directories for leaks from 808s, and the few that I found (Heartless, RoboCop, Paranoid) were amazing. Today I downloaded the full retail version of the album, and listened to it. Not only was it absolutely brilliant, but I came to find out the songs I had previously downloaded were unfinished versions. The final versions of the songs are incredible. The whole album is incredible. It is his best album yet. However, it is very different when compared to he previous albums. Kanye had a different philosophy for this album; he made it for himself, and just so happened to release it to the public. Many people have already criticized the album for various reasons, but that is because they were expecting/hoping for something like his previous albums or were simply upset that it didn't sound like all that shit on the radio. With this album, Kanye has completely transcended hip-hop.

Go now, buy it, download it, steal it, LISTEN TO IT!

I earned it!

So I decided to buy a Macbook today... I've been considering getting one for a while now, and I thought today would be a good day to get one. My HP laptop has been experiencing virus-related problems lately, which is another factor that pushed me to get a Mac. So far I am liking it. It is MUCH lighter and more powerful than my previous machine, it came with a free 8gb iPod Nano and HP Printer, and best of all, it's BLACK! I've never owned a Mac before, so I am still familiarizing myself with the OS. It's fun though, and I foresee it improving the quality of my college life.

Here is a pic I took with the built-in camera... Got me a matching Nano. I am ecstatic, clearly.

Slightly New...

My RTVF 141 class is requiring me to create my own website and use it to showcase various types of media that I create. I am also required to have a blog... which is one of the reasons why I am writing this. I have some preliminary ideas about the look and feel of my site, as well as what kinds of media I will present...

I would like to post my highly-anticipated World of Warcraft PvP movie(s) on my site. As of right now, I am working on capturing quality footage for my first "Introductory" movie, which introduces me (my character) and will probably feature some world PvP.
